1932-2008

One of the greatest singers out of South Africa died at the age of 76, after a long battle with cancer.  She was performing at a concert in Italy on Sunday last weekend.  As she was about to leave the stage, Miriam Makeba collapsed and was rushed to the hospital where she died later around midnight.  The cause was cardiac arrest.  Makeba's voice stirred hopes of freedom among millions in her country with music that was banned by the apartheid authorities she struggled against. 

 I very rarely pays tribute to any celebrity after his or her own death.  Yet, Makeba was truly one of my most favorite female entertainers and always will be.  She was a singer, who expressed herself from the heart and for what she believed in.  She bravely fought in her own way for the rights of black people in Africa.  Her songs also brings tears to my eyes when she sings.  I am mourning today as though I knew her personally.  This Humanitarian has touched so many people from all walks of life with her music and I think that is how everyone should live their lives today.  Helping others with the gift, God has given them on this earth and everyone does have a talent.

    My dear "Mama Africa," here is a standing ovation for you and your music that will last forever in my book.  God has lent us one of his angels for seventy-six years, and now, he has called her back home.  May you rest in piece, Mama Africa.
