My mother just returned to NY from Barbados, after attending the funeral of a family member. A sudden tragedy had struck my family. My aunt Gloria(my mother's sister) died suddenly on April 19, 2008 and was buried on May 3, 2008. When we had heard the very sad news, it was unbelievable and we are still in shock about it. I do not know when the family will recover from this, but we must move on with our lives.
Auntie Gloria was not the head of the family, but she was an organizer, a helper to many people, from a family member to a stranger, to a friend. Unfortunately, she was also the type of person who helped everyone else, except herself. My family would beg my aunt constantly to take care of herself and to relax, but she just kept on going like an energizer bunny. This was her sorrowful downfall.
Auntie Gloria was such a popular member of her church in St. Thomas, where she lived, that the church's pastor could not even carried on the funeral service without breaking down into loud tears at the lost of his dear friend.
Auntie Gloria had just visited her only daughter in America for three weeks. Her other child lives in Barbados. The week after returning to Barbados from her USA trip, she died. It is so sad, but true.
Gloria, your family, friends and associates will miss you very much. May you rest in peace. Heaven has another angel, Amen.
God Bless, Jonella
